Meet Neil

Your UK & Worldwide Destination Wedding Photographer

Hi! I’m Neil, a 6′ 4″ beardy gentle giant – That’s me stood on top of one of my favourite places in the world – Mount Maunganui, NZ.   I’m a wedding photographer, with a natural, relaxed style based in the beautiful city of Sheffield. I shoot weddings all over the UK and the world – literally the other side of the world – take a look here.

I live in a fairly normal house in one of the old mining villages with awesome countryside walks and bike rides on my doorstep.  I am married and have been for the last 10 years 🥰. Helpful tip – if you have left it all to the last minute. We booked, organised and held our wedding within four months of deciding to do it and it was brilliant. So don’t get too stressed if you don’t have three years to plan it!

We have 4 children – 3 boys and a girl, a very loveable but short on braincells Golden Labrador called Jester 🦮 a cat with the loudest most persistent meow in the world, she is called Marmite and you can guess why 🐈, two guinea pigs called Buzz and Woody 🐱who sound like the have squeaky dog toys stuck in their mouths!.

My favourite things in the world are coffee and travelling, and when I’m not shooting weddings you’ll find me walking and discovering new trails in the Peak District.

I spend a lot of time planning future adventures and nothing makes me happier than spending a weekend out and about in the wilderness.

My love of people watching is what got me into wedding photography. I’ve been a wedding photographer for 10 years and its true what they say “find something you love to do and you’ll never work another day in your life”. Well, apart from when a global pandemic hits anyway – that sucks!

Genuinely, the greatest thing about my job is being there of one the best days in peoples lives and watching people laughing, crying, drinking, falling over and generally having an absolutely awesome day.

My favourite part of the wedding day is the chilled in between bits, the vows, the speeches, the party, the food 😉 – pretty much the whole day. I Love all of it – especially if you feed me too – Disclaimer: it not compulsory to feed your wedding photographer but no one wants to see me hangry 😀

My couples value good photography, and the last thing they want is a photographer who makes them pose all day and takes over their wedding day.

My wedding photography style is laid back and natural. I capture all the beautiful and fleeting moments, and let you get on with having a fantastic wedding.

Couples who book me are generally not too hung up on all the formalities, traditions or having all the material “things”. They just want to have an amazing time with their favourite people and don’t particularly like having their photo taken.

If this sounds like you, and you like the way I do things then drop me a message and lets see if I’m free on your date.

Why are you called Type1 Photography?

I sometimes get asked “Why Type1 Photography?”
Well that is influenced by my love of classic VW cars and vans. The original classic VW Beetle’s factory name was a ‘Type1’.
I have had a few of them over the years in various states of disrepair, currently making do with a T5.1 campervan though as it has more seats, a pop up roof and is perfect for day trips and weekends away with the kids.

~ I can sometimes be described as so relaxed I am horizontal.

~ If there is a crisis, I’m the one people call – a bit like a one man A-Team.

~ I love the smell of cigars, they remind me of my dad and lazy summer holidays.

~ The party is always the best part of the day and I WILL sing along to pretty much everything!

~ On wedding days I exist on coffee and Snickers.

~ Picard is, was, always will be, THE Captain

~ The original Disney films are the best – Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Mary Poppins….
